1. Make A List. Make a list of things you need to do long before you move. This list should is not only a checklist of all the things you need to accomplish, this should also serve as a moving guide to keep you organized and on top of things. Since things have a tendency of getting chaotic as the moving day gets nearer, the list should help keep track of all appointments, packing, and other things you need to do.
2. Pack Ahead. Packing smaller items or things that you do not need to use everyday will save you tons of time. Old clothes, decorations, knickknacks and other items that are unessential but you have to bring go to this category.
3. Buy Lots of Supplies. Buy boxes, tape and other moving supplies ahead of time. It’s better to have lots extra rather than having to run to the store every time you run out of bubble wrap or packaging tape. As you box your things, remember to clearly label every box. If you can, include a small inventory of the contents.
4. Keep Things Together. If it belongs in the kitchen, it should stay in the box for kitchen items. Group items according to the room they belong to. So don’t put your stapler with the potato peeler even if they are almost the same size. This will help your unpacking go faster and more efficiently.
5. Keep Your Valuables With You. If you have jewelry, or you need to bring some cash, keep them with you at all times. Refrain from putting valuable small items inside boxes or packing crates, lest they get lost or stolen.
6. Don’t Panic. Panic and chaos can be avoided with careful planning. Don’t leave all your packing during the last minute. Start planning ahead as soon as a move is confirmed.
